Bee Removal on a Sunday Evening // Bees in a big ball

Bee removal from a water feature. A beautiful swarm that we could easily remove and transfer to a new home.

I really enjoyed this bee removal. Ethan and I often rate our removals once completed and it is often that we finish a job and we are glad it is done. Every removal is different and provides it’s own set of challenges, in the case of this removal there was nothing we could complain about, it gave us time to appreciate these beautiful creatures.

A perfect removal is made up of a variety of things a few of these are:

  • Easily accessible swarm
  • Good weather
  • Non-aggressive bees
  • Sufficient comb to include in the brood box
  • Vacuum bees easily
  • Transfer from vacuum to the hive is smooth

When everything goes as well as it can the removal and bees benefit from a quick transition between the unfavourable home in the owner’s water feature to the new and permanent home in a hive box that is cared for and situated in a location that will not bother anyone.

We were fortunate to be able to start this video in the daylight and get some great shots of the bees up close. The swarm was so co-operative the owner of the property was able to stand nearby and observe us as we work.

We enjoy the opportunity to share our knowledge of the bees with property owners and explain the amazing creatures and their behaviours.

This swarm is now one of our strongest swarms and we have started to harvest honey from their site in less than 4 months from relocating them, a sign that they are thriving and love where they now live..
